Netflix has released the trailer for season two of With Love, Meghan, the lifestyle series hosted by Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex. The announcement came just hours after Meghan and Prince Harry signed a new, smaller deal with the streaming giant.
The second season will premiere on August 26, filmed at a rented house near Meghan and Harry’s Montecito mansion. The location is used for privacy reasons. Interestingly, all the episodes for both seasons were recorded at the same time, before season one aired in March 2025.
Guests and Trailer Highlights
Season two will feature celebrity guests including Chrissy Teigen and Jamie Kern Lima.
In the 1 minute 27 second trailer, Meghan is seen preparing snacks, eating cheese, making drinks, and chatting with friends. At one point, she reveals a personal detail about her husband:
“Do you know who doesn’t like lobster? My husband,” Meghan says while cooking seafood.
She ends the teaser by telling viewers:
“I love these moments of discovery and beauty. So let’s be curious together.”
The First Season’s Struggles
Despite the high-profile host, With Love, Meghan failed to break into Netflix’s top 300 programs for the first half of 2025. It even lost in popularity to multiple old seasons of Meghan’s former TV drama Suits.
Reviews were mostly negative. Critics described the show as “sensationally absurd,” “tone-deaf,” and “joyless.” The series currently has an IMDb rating of 3.2/10 and a 38% rating on Rotten Tomatoes — both considered poor.
Some awkward moments from season one also attracted attention:
- Meghan put pretzels from a packet into a plastic bag as if it was a special recipe.
- She corrected a guest for calling her “Markle” instead of “Sussex.”
- One viewer even claimed her homemade bath salts recipe caused skin burns.
Meghan’s Christmas Special and Other Netflix Projects
Alongside season two, Meghan has filmed a Christmas special set to air in December 2025. This may compete for attention with the Princess of Wales’ annual carol concert at Westminster Abbey.
Harry and Meghan are also producing:
- Masaka Kids, A Rhythm Within, a documentary about orphaned children in Uganda living with the impact of HIV/AIDS.
- An adaptation of the romantic novel Meet Me At The Lake.
- Other projects in development across different genres.
A “Downgraded” Netflix Deal
Industry experts believe the couple’s new Netflix deal is far smaller than their original $100 million five-year agreement signed in 2020.
PR expert Mark Borkowski called it a “downgrade.” He told the Daily Mail:
“Netflix has pivoted away from two very expensive people who didn’t deliver. They’ve given them a modest deal instead. This is more ‘we’ll call you’ than ‘here’s the checkbook.’”
Under the new multi-year, first-look deal, Netflix has the right to review Harry and Meghan’s projects before other companies, but they are not obligated to accept or fund them. Payment will likely be on a “per project” basis, rather than a large lump sum like before.
Borkowski believes the couple will now be paid for each production Netflix chooses, and the budgets will be much smaller:
“It’s a slimmed-down sequel to the blockbuster original. Less champagne budget, more Prosecco by the glass.”
Netflix’s Relationship with the Sussexes
Netflix and the Sussexes have previously worked together on several titles:
- With Love, Meghan (season one)
- Harry & Meghan documentary series
- Live to Lead
- Heart of Invictus
- Polo
The streaming platform also collaborates with Meghan’s lifestyle brand, As Ever.
In a joint statement, Meghan said:
“We’re proud to extend our partnership with Netflix and expand our work together to include the As Ever brand.”
Netflix’s Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria added:
“We’re excited to continue our partnership.”
The Bigger Picture
Harry and Meghan’s relationship with Netflix began in 2020 when they stepped down as senior working royals. At that time, their deal was estimated at $100 million. The agreement allowed them to produce documentaries, series, and films under their company Archewell Productions.
While the first deal gave them creative freedom and large budgets, the new arrangement seems to limit both. Instead of an open checkbook, Netflix will now choose which of their projects to support, based on potential audience interest and profitability.
The change comes at a time when Netflix is cutting costs across the industry. Many shows with high budgets but low viewership have been cancelled or scaled down. For Harry and Meghan, this means they must prove each new project can perform well before getting funding.
Public Reaction
The announcement of With Love, Meghan season two has sparked mixed reactions. Fans of the Duchess are excited to see more of her cooking, gardening, and lifestyle tips. However, critics question whether the show can attract a bigger audience after the first season’s poor performance.
Some see the second season as a chance for Meghan to improve her image and produce higher-quality content. Others believe Netflix is simply fulfilling its filming commitment since both seasons were recorded together.
Meghan’s On-Screen Style
In her show, Meghan blends casual hosting with aspirational lifestyle content. She shares recipes, discusses home décor, and enjoys outdoor activities with her guests. While her style appeals to some viewers, others find it too polished and unrealistic.
This divide in audience opinion mirrors the general public’s mixed views on Meghan and Harry since they left the UK royal family. Their Netflix work, like their public image, often receives both strong praise and harsh criticism.
Looking Ahead
With the second season’s release on August 26, all eyes will be on how With Love, Meghan performs. If it attracts more viewers and better reviews, it could help strengthen the Sussexes’ position at Netflix. If not, future projects might face even tighter budgets and scrutiny.
Regardless, Meghan and Harry remain active in producing content, from lifestyle specials to documentaries. Their shift to a smaller deal may mark the end of Netflix’s royal spending spree, but it is not the end of their collaboration.
For Meghan, this could be a chance to prove she can create content that resonates with a broad audience. For Netflix, it’s a strategic move to manage risk while keeping two globally known names in its lineup — just on more cautious terms.
As for viewers, the new season will once again offer a look inside Meghan’s version of home life, friendship, and food — even if Prince Harry won’t be eating the lobster.
