The Family Plan 2 Review: A Lazy, Boring Sequel That Fans Are Calling “Terrible”

When The Family Plan released in December 2023, it became the most-watched movie in Apple TV+ history. But its success has now led to The Family Plan 2—and sadly, this sequel is even worse. Viewers on IMDb have given it extremely low ratings, calling it “boring,” “childish,” “unrealistic,” and “a waste of time.”

A Story With No Fun, No Logic, and No Real Action

Director Simon Cellan Jones and actor Mark Wahlberg return, but the movie feels lifeless from the start. This time, Dan Morgan (Wahlberg) is no longer hiding his past as an assassin—everyone already knows it. He now works as a security expert and just wants his family together for the holidays.

A simple job invitation from a London bank suddenly pulls the family into a silly Europe-wide chase involving Dan’s half-brother Aidan. The plot makes very little sense, and most scenes feel copied from better action-comedy films.

Fans Say the Action Looks Fake and the Comedy Falls Flat

Viewers online are calling the movie:

  • “So many flaws in a $50 million film”
  • “Totally kiddish”
  • “Terrible and phoned in”
  • “My dog refused to watch this”
  • “Very bad movie”

The fight scenes look unrealistic, the jokes aren’t funny, and even the actors seem bored. Michelle Monaghan barely gets anything to do, while Kit Harington tries hard but can’t save the weak script.

Bad Visuals, Bad Writing, and No Real Entertainment

From fake-looking rooftop jumps to predictable European travel clichés, nothing in the movie feels fresh. Even the big action moments are edited so poorly that they don’t create any excitement.

One scene shows how lazy the writing is: Dan tells his family their mission code word is “abort”—a word that sounds more like a command than a code. Moments later, he magically defeats an assassin without any struggle. Scenes like these make the movie feel rushed and incomplete.

Final Verdict: This Sequel Will Put You to Sleep

If you wanted a fun family action-comedy for the holidays, this isn’t it. The Family Plan 2 is a dull and forgettable film that many viewers say they couldn’t even finish. With almost all reviews on IMDb giving it 1 or 2 stars, it’s clear that fans expected much better.

If you’re looking for something to help you sleep, this movie might work faster than a Thanksgiving dinner.
